Citation Generator and Other Tech Fixes

I received two bug reports recently regarding this website, and I thought I’d take this opportunity to thank everyone who takes the time to report things like this.

First, the category sort filter was acting up. This is what you get to when, using this page as an example, you want to read OTHER articles filed under “Stories” on this site.

For the fellow tech nerds who are curious, the problem was introduced when I changed some Cloudflare settings related to not caching URLs that end in a query string. Previous settings made it so category filter URLs would redirect to the homepage. Wrong. And fixed.

The other thing was fixing the Citation Generator that I coded in order to display formatted citation info at the bottom of posts, hoping that it might cut down on folks thinking copyright is for those other people and not also for them.

The fix there was to handle some punctuation properly, and also to add the Chicago (Author-Date) Style while we were at it. And I think that should be all set now, so each post should run that app and populate the citation block appropriately.

Hopefully there’s nothing else that has evaded reports. If you see something, say something. Use the accessibility report option on the contact page, because if it’s something you think is wrong, it’s possibly creating an accessibility issue, and I want to be sure to get that.
